Chiropractic
The chiropractic perspective on health and disease (dis-ease) emphasizes two basic concepts:
- the structure and condition of the body influences how the body functions and its ability to heal itself; and
- the mind-body relationship is instrumental in maintaining health and in the healing processes.
Chiropractic philosophy gravitates toward a holistic (“total person”) approach to healing which combines elements of the mind, body and spirit and maintains that health depends on obedience to natural laws, and that deviation from such laws can result in illness.
Chiropractic Philosophy includes:
- emphasis on patient recuperative abilities rather than dependence on medication and surgery,
- recognition of the centrality of the nervous system and its intimate relationship with the functioning of the human body,
- a patient-centered, hands-on approach focused on influencing function through structure, (picture)
- recognition that dynamics exist between lifestyle, environment and health,
- understanding the cause of illness in order to eliminate it, rather than simply treat symptoms.
Chiropractors undergo a three year science university degree followed by a four year accredited chiropractic college training. Chiropractors are thoroughly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of a multitude of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. They are skilled in recognizing problems that may require the treatment of other medical professionals and will refer as necessary. After medicine and dentistry, it is the third largest primary health care profession in the western world.
The bones of the body are supported by muscles and ligaments that surround each joint. Fixated joints occur when muscles are overused, overworked or affected by trauma and inflammation. These fixated areas (subluxations) can cause nerve interference symptoms of pain, poor function, numbness, and weakness. Chiropractic care restores proper function in your joints to help heal the muscles, ligaments and other structures around them allowing the body to function optimally. While chiropractors often deal with back complaints, they also adjust all other joints in the body (ankles, elbows, wrists, etc).

Active Release Technique® (ART)
Active Release Technique is a movement based soft tissue/massage technique that treats overuse injuries involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART.
The body’s natural response to healing is deposition of scar tissue. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range |

of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness. ART focuses on breaking up these scar tissue adhesions and expediting the recovery process.

Physiotherapy Modalities
We offer treatment using physiotherapy modalities assisting you in recovering from chronic and acute injury and/or pain. Sprain/strain injuries involving ligaments, tendons and muscles respond effectively to these therapies. By using Ultrasound, TENS, and/or Electrical Muscle Stimulation the practitioner can help speed your recovery and rehabilitation. Some painful conditions that respond well to these modalities include plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, arthritis and bursitis.
Custom Orthotics
Feet provide the foundation for the entire body and any deviation from normal structure and /or function can result in not only foot pain but also knee, hip and back pain. Custom Orthotics can help with conditions such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, arthritis, iliotibial band syndrome, Achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia and patellofemoral pain syndrome. Orthotics will improve posture, maximize comfort and shock absorption. The Excel System used by the clinic gives a 3-dimensional analysis of your feet in both a static (standing) and dynamic (walking) mode. Our lab technician makes your foot supports using this information and designing the orthotic for your specific requirement. Special adjustments can be made to assist the diabetic and arthritic patient, heel spurs, leg length inequalities, and bunions. |
